The Language and Social Cognition Lab held an on-site training workshop on the use of the NIRSport2 system that measures brain activity for neuroimaging research on 14 February 2022. NIRSport2 by NIRx is an advanced fNIRS system to measure hemodynamic neuro-activation in the cerebral cortex using continuous wave near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) techniques. As such, fNIRS can detect what parts of the brain is used during an activity. This system is suitable for behavioral and neuroscience research on both children and adults, and allows for movement such as those in sports and classroom settings. During the workshop, how the fNIRS system works and hands-on training on the use of the equipment and software were showcased. Participants were able to learn about the NIRSport2 system, how to set up an experiment with NIRSport2, and gain tips on collecting reliable brain measurements and how to analyze and interpret the data. The workshop was well-attended by students and researchers from various pillars, including HASS, ASD, CSD, EPD. More details about NIRSport2 can be found here.
